He joined Genome Canada in February 2002. He is a chartered accountant with over 14 years experience providing a wide range of business, finance, strategic and accounting advice to many new technology organizations. Prior to joining Genome Canada, Egidio was the CFO of two hi-tech start-ups and also held various positions at KPMG LLP, most recently as Senior Manager of New and Emerging Businesses. During his tenure with KPMG, Egidio also lectured, over a four year period, at the University of Ottawa. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Ottawa and a D.E.C. from the CEGEP de L'Outaouais. He received his Chartered Accountant designation in 1991. - Miro Gonçalves is currently the Communications Manager
for Bell Sympatico Member Services Technical Helpdesk. He has held several
key positions within Bell Sympatico namely Workforce Manager and an
Operations/Technology Manager. Prior to joining Sympatico, Miro worked
for 11 years in an Intellectual Property Law Firm and also held various
positions, most recently as the Assistant Office Manager. He was also
a member of the (ALA) Association of Legal Administrators in Ottawa
(1990-1994). Miro continued his post secondary education (Part time)
at Cegep, Algonquin College, and the University of Ottawa in Business
Administration and Computer Science. Miro was also actively involved with sports (Hockey, Soccer and Football) He played 1st division with the Portuguese Unidos soccer club for 8 years (C.C.P.A.U.) and was named team captain in his last 3 seasons. The soccer team participated in the Ottawa-Carleton soccer league and they participated in the Provincial Championships in 1990. Miro also played football in High School and his team won the provincial championships 2 consecutive years in a row. This led to an opportunity to play football in France in 1992 against the French National Team. (a hardware and software manufacturer of 911 call management systems for the public safety sector), George has over 25 years of contract management experience in both the public and private sectors and responsible protect CML in all its commercial/legal transactions. One of the first Portuguese in the national capital area to frequent university, George graduated from Carleton University with a BA in Political Science and Business in 1974. George has lectured at Ottawa's Algonquin College on international business directed at small businesses. He has always been involved in Portuguese community activities on both sides of the Ottawa River. His pastimes include winemaking, cooking, golf and listening to fados. Email: gregorio@magma.ca Executive Assistant - Rosemary Tassie has been the Executive Assistant at CARE Canada, a non-profit international development agency headquartered in Ottawa since 1990. She provides support and liaises directly with the Board, Sr. Management and staff of the organization. In the 11 years in this position, she has coordinated or worked on every major event CARE has hosted - including an international conference held in Ottawa in May 2000. She has traveled to Cameron, Nicaragua and Kenya on CARE business. Her parents emigrated to Canada from the Açores when she was 4 years old, in 1960, and has made Canada her home since. She is married and the mother of two grown daughters. She is involved in the Portuguese community and enjoys participating in team sports. General Sales Manager - Manuel Pereira currently with Ogilvie Motors Mercedes-Benz as the General Sales Manager. Manuel joined the company in 1995 as the pre-owned sales manager. Graphic Design, Marketing and Communication - Manuela Teixeira, owner of visual communication agency, Kolegram, located in Hull, Quebec. Used to work for a cultural newspaper as a journalist, also worked in a publishing house as a coordinator. Joseph has gone from conventional banking, to small business loans, to commercial credit management, to setting up small business entrepreneurs in the copier business; and now finally self employed in the financial services industry handling personal and group life insurance, RRSP's, and all other forms of personal insurance and investments. Immigration since 2002. Registered Nurse - Adriana Nunes, 27 years old, and has been a Registered Nurse for 2 1/2 years. She is currently work at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hamilton specializing in the cardiac care unit. Previous to this she worked in Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto specializing in medicine and nephrology. She really enjoy her occupation. It's a continuous learning process. Adriana attended McMaster University in Hamilton and completed her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. She is currently back at McMaster University pursuing further studies in case management and has plans to do masters degree. She joined the Federal Government in 1989; since joining the public sector she has held various positions some of which were Finance Officer and Computer Science Training Coordinator. Travel and Logistics Coordinator - Saulina Silva is the Travel and Logistics Coordinator in the International Section of the Department of Environment for the Government of Canada. Saulina's tasks consist of coordinating logistics for the Minister and his Canadian Delegation traveling abroad. She is responsible for arranging all domestic and international travel. As well, when the Minister holds meetings in Canada, she is asked to coordinate travel and logistics arrangements for ministerial delegations from other countries. Upon the arrival in Canada of these ministerial delegations, Saulina will greet the visiting delegations upon arrival at the airport in the city where the meeting takes place. Saulina parents are both from São Miguel, Açores.

He received the B.A.Sc. in engineering science, and the M.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto in 1980 and 1982 respectively, and the Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California in 1985. Since 1986 he has been with the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto. In 1997 he was promoted to the rank of Full Professor. Since 1996 he has also been the chair of the Communications Group. He has performed research in spread spectrum systems since 1983. His current interests are in the areas of spread spectrum systems, mobile communications, and indoor wireless communications with emphasis on the high level performance of the network and signal processing issues affecting such a performance. He has been invited to give lectures and short courses on spread spectrum and wireless communications in a number of different countries. Da Rosa was born in Portugal and attended primary and secondary schools in Portugal, and Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis (USA). He studied at the Universities of Brussels, Indiana (B.A. Sociology; M.A. Latin American Studies), Montréal (M.Ed. Andragogie - Adult Education), and McGill (Ph.D. Social Anthropology). He has held various teaching and research appointments as assistant or visiting professor in the following universities: Central Missouri State University, McGill, Concordia, Laurentian, Växjö (Sweden), Fernando Pessoa (Portugal), ULBRA (Brazil), Witwatersrand (South Africa), and the Maastricht Center for Transatlantic Studies (Holland). Since 1971, he has been teaching sociology and anthropology at the University of Ottawa where he obtained his tenure in 1981 and was later promoted to the rank of "professeur titulaire - Full Professor". During the 1992-1993 school year, he served as the Director of PRODEV (Programme of Studies in International Development).
